Invisalign Aligners: Are They Right For You?

Invisalign Aligners: Are They Right For You?

Invisalign aligner trays are made of a clear plastic material that’s hardly noticeable when you’re wearing them, so most people won’t even know you’re going through orthodontic treatment unless you tell them. Most people won’t even notice your clear aligners because they are virtually invisible! In fact, the only people who will know you’re using them will be you and your dentist. This means that you can smile confidently throughout your treatment.

They’re also removable, which means you can take them out to brush and floss your teeth, as well as to eat the foods you love. Unlike traditional braces, there are no brackets or wires to worry about, so you can simply pop out your trays and enjoy all your favorites without worrying about food getting stuck in your braces. Feel free to enjoy a juicy apple or some delicious corn on the cob without the worry of what will happen when your braces come off. Patients of all ages can wear Invisalign aligners.

How Do Invisalign Aligners Work?

The Invisalign system relies on a series of removable, comfortable aligner trays to gradually move teeth into the correct alignment. Each tray is worn for about two weeks and then replaced with the next in the series. Over time, the teeth are gently moved to their proper positions. The system works well for both adults and teens who are concerned about the appearance of braces.

Because Invisalign aligners are removable, patients can eat their favorite foods and maintain a normal oral hygiene routine during treatment. This helps maintain oral health and reduces the risk of gum disease or tooth decay.

Because tooth movement with Invisalign is gradual, patients do not experience the same level of pain or discomfort as they would with traditional metal braces. However, some soreness may occur during the first few days of a new aligner. This is typically mild and resolves quickly.

Patients visit our dentist in Delta, BC, about every six weeks to receive a new set of aligners. The number of visits required varies based on the patient’s individual treatment needs. Most treatment plans last between nine and fifteen months, depending on the severity of misalignment and the goals for their smile makeover.

How Effective Are Invisalign Aligners?

The effectiveness of your Invisalign aligner comes down to several factors, including:

  • Compliance from the patient
  • Correctness of the impressions taken by the dentist or orthodontist
  • Quality of work performed by the lab that creates the aligners
  • Care and hygiene of the teeth while wearing them
  • The general health of the patient

All of this information will help your dentist decide what kind of results you should expect from your treatment.
